JJ doula is a comprehensive 6 day doula training program with a focus on hands on learning. The program includes a 3 day foundations training, followed by a 3 day advanced training where the student doulas learn alongside experienced doulas and midwives who are keen learn new skills, or refresh existing ones. The training includes internships, mentoring and an online student community. The training takes place twice per year in Amsterdam, and is taught in English. It is open to both Dutch and international doulas.

Level 1: €525 including 3 days training, reader, tea and snacks, mentor support, online community and assistance arranging internship.

Level 2: €525 including 3 days training, reader & certification process at completion.

We encourage students to take level 1 then do internships and gain practical experience before taking level 2. Exceptions are made for those with previous experience in birth (i.e. nurses and kraamverzorgsters) and those coming from out of country then you make take level 1 and 2 together.

Internship
Attend a minimum of 3 births under the supervision of a midwife, nurse or experienced doula. This can be any combination of home/hospital. With at least one in 1st line care and 1 in 2nd line care.Including 2 shifts in a hospital, where you shadow a nurse/midwife.

JJ doula provides documentation and support in finding appropriate internship placements.

Certification requirements:

• Level 1 and Level 2 training.

• Attend a minimum of 3 births in an internship situation, at least one in first line care and 1 in second line care.

• Attend a minimum of 3 births as a doula, including prenatal appointments, birth support and post partum meeting. A minimum of 15 hours of birth support including 1 home birth (or a home to hospital transfer where the doula has provided at least 5 hours of support in the home).

• Submission of student portfolio.

Biographies of the Founding Trainers:

Jacky Bloemraad-de Boer CPM Midwife Lic.Ac.
Jacky is the Director of Education for Birth Institute and she is a CPM (Certified Professional Midwife), Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner, Reflexologist, Nutritionist and Herbalist.
She is an educator teaching midwives, doulas and acupuncturists Complementary Medicine for Fertility, Pregnancy, Childbirth & Postpartum. She has worked in Europe & Africa as a midwife, doula & CAM therapist and as an educator.
Jacky has published a book: A-Z for a Healthy Pregnancy and Natural Childbirth, ISBN: 978-1-4343-2832-8.

Jennifer Walker 
Jennifer is a Childbirth International certified doula. In 2015 she became one of seven Approved Spinning Babies Trainers traveling domestically and internationally to teach. She has also completed DONA doula training with Debra Pascali-Bonaro (Orgasmic Birth). She has her HBO diploma in Foundations of Western Medicine. In addition she has attended a multitude of workshop learning from experts such as Elizabeth Davis, Anna Verwaal, Barbara Harper, Ina May Gaskin, Carol Phillips, Verena Schmid and Gail Tully.

Jennifer is a Canadian, living and working in Amsterdam for the past 16 years. Jennifer’s background is theatre production and consulting. In 2007 she began working full time as a doula supporting families in Amsterdam and has attended hundreds of births as a doula.

Together Jacky and Jennifer have given workshops for the RED TENT events at the Amsterdam and Groningen Midwifery Schools, Slingerland Hospital and the St. Lucas Andreas Hospital. They also offer workshops such as Birthing positions for hospital staff, midwives and childbirth educators.

In 2015 the JJ doula training expanded the team to include Joyce Pula as mentor and teacher.

Joyce Pula
Joyce is a doula, yoga teacher and masseuse. She has extensive experience teaching pregnancy yoga, baby massage and aromatherapy for birth professionals. Joyce is in the Board of the Geboortebeweging www.geboortebeweging.nl and was on the organising committee for the Human Rights in Childbirth Conference in 2012 www.humanrightsinchildbirth.com/hric-conferences
